I had the girls today while my wife went shopping so I took a short trip around noon. There were 3 Franklin's Gulls among the 3,000 or so gulls at Cutler Wetlands. I had been scanning the flock with Carlos Sanchez for a few minutes when Bob and Peg from North Florida showed up and Peg quickly spotted a Franklin's diretnly south of the fenced pump. Continued scanning yielded 2 more. From there me and Carlos went to Dump Marsh where we spotted the Snow Goose in the pond south of the wastewater facility. While watching the goose, the Tropical Kingbird appeared on the wire across the canal to the west.

After taking the girls back home, me and Carlos headed out to Black Point to scan the water. No Horned Grebe this time, just a few Red-breasted Mergansers. At sunset, we headed back to Dump Marsh and had spectacular looks at a pair of Great-horned Owls that were perched on a snag along the canal between the wastewater facility and the old landfill. They then flew almost over us and landed in the palms on the north side of 248 St. Nine Lesser Nighthawks appeared over the old landfill just before dark, with one coming really close to the parked cars. Nice way to end a day when I wasn't really supposed to be birding! A Stone Brewing Arrogant Bastard Ale is most appropriate... OK, maybe that didn't sound quite the way I meant it.
