Lots of sparrows in terms of numbers at Lucky Hammock today but not variety. Most all of the birds were concentrated along the dried grass stalks on the eastern side of the field today which parallels the C111 canal. No Le Conte's Sparrow was located. Savannah Sparrows made up about 80% of the numbers with the other 20% being mostly Grasshopper Sparrows. A single WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was the highlight of the day.
There were high numbers of Swainson's Hawks out in the fields, which were mowed down right before noon.
There were good numbers of Sandhill Crane, Eastern Phoebe, Palm Warbler, American Kestrel, Northern Harrier, and other Lucky Hammock regulars for this time of year.
Roxanne and I observed a COYOTE near the C111 Canal early in the morning. This is probably the same individual Brian Rapoza saw a couple weeks ago.
