I stopped this afternoon at the canoe launch next to the C-100 canal at Old Cutler Road and 173 St. The water was flat, which made scanning with the scope much easier. I spotted a Horned Grebe to the northeast at high power. Several other small, dark birds swimming together beyond the Grebe were too far to make out clearly.
Yesterday the breeze made long-distance sanning impossible, but I did see a flock of 8 Lesser Scaup come by and do a few circles before disappearing to the east. Time to check out the coast for some not-too-common winter visitors.
