I just had the distinct pleasure of watching a dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk land in a tree outside my office carrying a dead Eurasian Collared Dove. It sat and posed for cell-phone pictures for a while, then took off northward toward MIA with its prey. This was at LeJeune Rd. and N.W. 6th St. in central Miami. Thus, I got the unusual opportunity to see a Short-tailed Hawk perched, as well as one hunting in a densely urban environment. Larry Manfredi says he has seen S-T Hawks in this same neighborhood before, though I never have.
