There are nesting King Rails that can be seen crossing the path when cloudy or rainy weather. You probably not see them if their are alot of people there. Red-shouldered Hawk,Anhinga, Purple Gallinule, Carolina Wren( Bobcat trail ), occasionally Spoonbill, Glossy Ibis, Limpkin sometimes, and your regular waders. Across the highway from the park enterance near a resteraunt and abandoned airboat station is the best spot for Snail Kites. They are off on the other side of the canal flying above the sawgrass like the standard hawk. Even though on occasion it can have some good birds, I don't reccomend it unless you want these birds. Shark Valley is not buggy because of a mosquito-eating aguatic plant called the blatter-wart. Search suburban Miami, Kendal and Miami Springs for our parrots and other exotics. On a good day, one can even find around 15 parrots.
