Trey, Angel and Mariel, and I started bright and early this morning at the field east of Lucky Hammock hoping to find a few sparrows for Mr. and Mrs. "I already have it for the year" year list. We were joined early briefly by John Boyd, then a little later by Roxanne and Jeanette. Sparrow numbers weren't huge, but there was decent variety. Walking east from Lucky Hammock, we turned south after the opening to the east field and found a LIncoln's Sparrow about 200 yards south and an Orange-crowned Warbler. Just north of the path, we found plenty of Savannahs, along with an awesome posing Clay-colored, a couple of Grasshoppers, and a Vesper. Also had a vocal Least Flycatcher The Crested Caracara was towards the far estern edge of the field with some vultures. There were a few Swainson's Hawks in the field, but when the thermals started rising a little later in the morning the vultures took to the air, and so did the Swainson's Hawks. We had over 20 Swainson's over us at one time. What a sight!

At the Annex we added Western Kingbird, Great-crested Flycatcher, and Rose-breasted Grossbeak.

While driving into the park, we got the call from Larry about the two Tropical Kingbirds AND Ash-throated Flycatcher, so we headed to Dump Marsh. Didn't relocated the Ash-throated, but had great looks at two Tropicals side by side. I could easily tell which one was the first one seen last side. The second bird does not look as worn, and it also called.

A brief stop at Cutler Wetlands produced the Flamingo, many Dowitchers and Yellowlegs, 5 Dunlin, 3 Avocets, 2 Black-necked Stilts, a few Least Sandpipers, some ducks, and many waders. A nice way to end a very enjoyable morning.
