A few sightings during my travels through south Miami-Dade today . . .

Two Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and three Western Kingbirds at SW 312 Street and SW 217 Avenue in Homestead.

Both Indigo and Painted Buntings at Lucky Hammock. Seven Swainson's Hawks were seen at close range in the field east of Lucky Hammock. Several other ground-perching hawks, probably also Swainson's, were beyond scope resolution at the far end of the field. Also in the field were the usual harriers and kestrels, 23 Sandhill Cranes and a first for me in Florida, a Coyote! Could a Roadrunner be far behind?

A Bell's Vireo and two Western Kingbirds at the Annex. The Bell's was at the first speed bump after the yellow gate.

An actively feeding American Bittern at Anhinga Trail, seen at extremely close range by 40 students from Miami Springs Middle School. It came very close to walking out on the sidewalk. Several other wading birds were present today at Anhinga Trail, a welcome sight.

The Tropical Kingbird, in the company of a Western Kingbird at Dump Marsh. Both were flycatching from the wires near the gated bridge. The Tropical called several times. An American Wigeon was in the west pond.

The American Flamingo at Cutler Wetlands. A Sacred Ibis was among the hundreds of White Ibis and Wood Storks. Shorebirds included American Avocet, Black-necked Stilt, Black-bellied Plover, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Western Sandpiper and Long-billed Dowitcher (calling). Mottled Duck, Northern Shoveler and both Blue and Green-winged Teal were also present.
