After hearing all the talk between Paul, Fred and Joni I just had to go on a night search to find the elusive screech owl at Hoechoka Hammock. Fairly soon after sunset I heard the warbling (screeching?) of the pair calling back and forth. In short order I managed to find the silhouette of the male, and he was joined by the female fairly quickly. As I approached to photograph them, no mean feat since the equipment was all manual and I was working camera, lens, and flashlight, they separated to two locations. I chose the owl at the lower tree leverl. Here he (she)is! In all of his crowning glory, documentary evidence of the elusive screech owl of Hoechoka Hammock.

Okay, so it is a little dramatic, but it was a good hunt and a great photo op!
