Yeah, the Pileateds are still around! In fact, on one of my last trips to Daggerwing about a month ago, I saw a Pileated at the very end of the north trail in a cavity in the big dead snag right next to the boardwalk. I haven't seen the American Bittern there yet this year, but there was at least one there last year, as well as the Leasts. (They are up front though by the big ponds in the pickerelweed and fireflag before you get back into the swamp.)
True, the preserve had a lot of damage by the hurricanes several years ago, but there still is a lot of good stuff there if you look for it!
