There was a Red-breasted Merganser female or juvenile on shore in Morningside today. Pranty says they stay year round, and very rare in summer. My first Morningside Least Tern showed up today. The Cooper's Hawks were all perched in the same tree, taking cover from the rain. I found a couple Green Heron and Yellow-crowned Night Heron nests in the park today, too, with 3 baby Green Herons in a nest, all very fuzzy looking.
The usually very territorial Mockingbirds all gathered ina wierd way after the rain, all making a weird mewing sound. I have seen this weird behavior before.
