As I drove away from the chiropractor at Palm Ave and Taft, I looked up and saw a short-tailed hawk on a light post. I quickly drove around the block and parked near the post and tried to snap a pic with my cellphone, but I was facing the beautiful sunshine so it was pointless. I tried several times walking to the other side of the post, but it would then fly to the next post. I drove past instead, then watched it from the sunny side, while being bitten by fire-ants. It was cocking it's head from side to side and calling pu pu pu. This went on for 10 minutes or so, then he flew west, over a little lake in a gated community.

I drove a little and thought I'd found him flying north a little, but it turned out to be a darker morph, which also headed for the little lake in the gated community, where he seemed to meet another darker morph. These 2 were much higher up, so I'm not sure of their identification.

I've not done any serious birding in several years and would love to start again, if anyone could direct me to groups I could join to do this please contact me.
