I just thought I would further clarify that I included the preliminary "30 falcon" number that was tossed around at the PEFA meeting (which I attended) because both the falconers and FWC staff present seemed to think this was a likely federal starting point for FWC to discuss the number they would permit. I included it in my email because I did not want to mislead the birding community in thinking that the FWC is considering allowing the harvest of hundreds of birds. At the meeting, the FWC made repeated statements about the majority opinion being in favor of harvest, despite a letter on behalf of Audubon's more than 32,000 members to the contrary. As a result, I asked FWC staff after the meeting and they indicated birders could feel free to send their concerns to the agency, even though the official, initial comment period had passed. Thanks to everyone for sharing their concerns, and ensuring that the agency hears from a diversity of constituents.
