We need to get together as a collective group and send individual letters to our local, state, and federal governments as well as the commissioners of the FWC. We need to let them know that they will be going directly against what Conservation areas, State and National Parks are for. An area set apart to let the wonders of nature take place. It is a shame that this issue has even come up and that our Florida "Wildlife" Commission is even considering the trapping of Falcons. One reason that is pointed out in Laura's post is that the Falconers letters outnumber the interest of the wildlife enthusiast as well as the conservationist in our State.
So people please write, call, petition do whatever it takes to let the Commission realize that Floridians are dedicated to saving our wildlife and protecting migrating birds through the state.
The Peregrine Falcon belongs to a list of Migratory Birds that appears in Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 10.13 BIRDS PROTECTED BY THE MIGRATORY BIRD TREATY ACT
Falcon, Aplomado, Falco femoralis
Peregrine, Falco peregrinus
Prairie, Falco mexicanus
Here is a link which describes and has information about the act of 1918. http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/intrnltr/treatlaw.html#mbta
We hope that everyone can get on top of this issue and stop the potential harvesting of Falcons that should not be happening in the first place.
Nature is Awesome
