Today, between the hours of 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, I birded the fields near Homestead Speedway where, last Friday, Larry Manfredi spotted the White-rumped Sandpipers. Here's what I saw:
Lots of nesting Black-necked Stilts!
White-rumped Sandpipers - 8
Stilt Sandpiper - 1
Killdeer - 1
About 6-8 of the following:
Semi-palmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Short-billed Dowitcher
Black-bellied Plover
Most of these birds were found in and around small puddles of water on the east side of the road. These puddles may have been greater in number and size on Friday, when Larry saw the birds. Hopefully they won't dry up that soon. Other birds spotted in the same area:
Least Tern
Laughing Gull
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Nighthawk
White Ibis
Glossy Ibis

Cheers,
Raul
