We started the day by heading to Lucky Hammock. At Lucky Hammock and the Annex, we found 13 warbler species (Ovenbird, C. Yellowthroat, Black-and-white, Tennessee, N. Waterthrush, Redstart, Parula, Cape May, BT Blue, Magnolia, Palm, Yellow-throated, and Prairie), Painted and Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, Philadelphia Vireo, Eastern Kingbird, Pewee, Least Flycatcher, and an unidentified empid (Traill's?). Several Broad-winged Hawks flew overhead and Harriers cruised the fields.
After a brief stop at the Coe Visitor's Center, we headed for the Homestead Airport to look for Burrowing Owls. We failed to find them. A couple of promising lumps in the field turned out to be Meadowlarks, while another was a well-hidden light.
Next was Castellow Hammock, where we had a picnic lunch. An Ovenbird was repeatedly seen near the pavilion as we ate. There were a number of birds present, including many Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Although there were many warblers, none added to our list.
We finished by visiting Cutler wetland and dump marsh, where we saw a young Bald Eagle.
The group saw 80 or so species.
