All is well with the Least Grebes. The chicks are growing and becoming more independent as the distance between each other and an adult increases each day. Their high pitched "peeping" can be heard whenever a parent approaches with a dragonfly nymph. They will be 3 weeks old this coming Mon.and Tues. and have become too big to climb on the parent's back, but a few days ago they were still trying. One managed to get on and the other hung halfway off. The chicks have been diving all week. If you know where to look, you can see one bird on the nest. A guess for the hatching of some siblings is next Friday or so. It was Oct. 2nd that they moved to their present nesting area.
