GULF COUNTY
A SURF SCOTER in full breeding plumage was found near Black's Island in St. Joe Bay on Saturday 24th (W. Harris). DeLorme p. 59; Pranty p. 56

TAYLOR COUNTY
On Saturday 24th a BLACK RAIL was heard calling & 'growling' on the salt marshes SE of town, of Steinhatchee. Drive SE from Steinhatchee on Hwy 361 (The Road to Nowhere) until it dead ends in the salt marsh (about 10 miles, mostly paved). From the end of the road, walk East (left) down off-road truck tracks about 200-300 feet. The area where Black Rail was heard calling was thick tussocks of grass...very wet in places. He responded to a tape. Also a SWAINSON’S WARBLER was heard singing from the Hickory Mounds impoundment (J. Murphy). DeLorme p. 62/63; Pranty p. 83

VOLUSIA COUNTY
On Saturday 24th the following species were seen during an offshore fishing contest off of Ponce Inlet: 16 CORY’S SHEARWATERS, 4 AUDUBON’S SHEARWATERS, 10 WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS, 1 BAND-RUMPED STORM-PETREL, 2 SOOTY TERNS, 20 BRIDLED TERNS, & 8 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES (B. PINELLAS COUNTY
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was seen Thursday 29th at Ft. DeSoto Park. This adult
bird was working from the phone lines about 1 mile from the North Beach (D. Ferrell). DeLorme p. 90; Pranty p. 126

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
On Friday 31st eight WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were found in the fields near the Homestead Speedway. Directions: Exit Florida's Turnpike in Homestead, at s.w. 137 ave. go south on this to s.w. 328 st. turn left on s.w. 328 st. drive to the second grassy road and make a right turn here. Drive down this road and scan on both sides for birds. You will be looking at the northeast side of the racetrack (L. & C. Manfredi). DeLorme p. 122; Pranty p. 230

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK
On Saturday 24th a WHITE-TAILED KITE was seen west of the south end of Research Road and two GULL-BILLED TERNS were found at Eco Pond (B. Roberts). DeLorme p. 121/122; Pranty p. 234
