When I was a fledgling birdwatcher and Ft. Lauderdale was known as "the winter home of Painted Buntings" there was a bunting feeder sold through the Broward County Audubon Society with the food dish protected by one by two inch wire hardware cloth that the birds had to go all the way through to reach the food. The preferred bunting food was white prozo millet.
