Pavonia bahamensis is, indeed, the correct name for Bahama swampbush. I planted a couple of them here at Castellow Hammock, plus I have a couple at my hacienda. There's a native Pavonia as well, P. paludicola, which I've seen growing wild at Black Point Marina, and along the Rodgers River, about halfway between Chokoloskee and Flamingo in Everglades National Park. It was first reported from that region in 1962 by Frank Craighead, and hadn't been reported from ENP in over 30 years. I found lots of them growing along the edge of the river during my most recent solo canoe paddle from Chokoloskee to Flamingo. It looks very similar to P. bahamensis, except the flowers are slightly larger and the petals flare open wider. I should try to get Fairchild to grow it for distribution. They have it in their collection.
Good to know Yellow-rumped warblers like it too!
