Following David La Puma's suggestion from a year or so ago I spent a few hours on the roof this evening and was treated to good numbers of songbirds, shorebirds, and a lone owl backlit by the moon. Looking at a US Dept of the Interior circular on migration written in 1950 by Frederick Lincoln I see that: "Observations made with telescopes focused on the full moon have shown processions of birds, one observer estimating that birds passed his point of observation at the rate of 9,000 an hour..."

On a different note, two days ago I photographed a Florida Purplewing butterfly while looking at warblers and plants on Totten Key (Biscayne Natl. Park/Miami Dade County). Wonder if Roger has had any of these in Castellow or ENP since Andrew.
