I remember reading about how Blue Jay migration in Florida is poorly understood. Over here in Collier County, mine (a group of about 6-8 individuals, all with a hierarchy and assigned tasks within the group, simply "disappeared" for about three weeks. Today, they are back and as boisterous as ever. Where they went to (I searched high and low for them), I have no idea. I know that had they been anywhere nearby in those three weeks, their "sentinel" would have alerted the others to the peanuts that have been on the ground that my neighbor leaves out for them. The peanuts have been there for three weeks. Even the farsighted squirrels didn't find them. OK, I'll admit it, I, too, sometimes give them a few peanuts. Anyway, have others observed Blue Jays "disappearing for weeks at a time from their "hoods" only to return a few weeks later?
