Thirteen birders joined me for this morning's TAS walk at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Highlights included a flock of twelve Swallow-tailed Kites, first seen overhead, then over Biscayne Bay, and a warbler flock on the lighthouse trail that included Yellow and Prothonotary Warbler. Other birds tallied included:
Magnificent Frigatebird
Cooper's Hawk
Merlin
White-crowned Pigeon
Common Ground-Dove
Chuck-will's-widow
Eastern Kingbird
Barn Swallow
Cape May Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Worm-eating Warbler (heard)
Ovenbird
Northern Waterthrush
Common Yellowthroat
Bobolink
Before leaving Key Biscayne, Jocelyn and Gary Robinson, John Boyd and I stopped at Crandon Beach, but only the usual suspects were present, including Black-bellied, Wilson's, Semipalmated and Piping Plovers, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Short-billed Dowitcher, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Royal, Sandwich and Least Terns and Black Skimmer.
