I've been home for a month since our Southern Peru trip, and haven't trained my lens on anything avian for awhile, so I sneaked over to Barnes Park, midafternoon today to try to get used to using a monopod with my big lens. no dice--but there were small birds flitting all about, and of course I didn't have my binoculars, but I did get pictures of the two birds shown below and in the follow up--I assume one to be a (juvenile?) great crested flycatcher and the other?? (flicker? woodpecker?)Id help would be appreciated.
As for Peru, I am still editing literally thousands of scenery, people etc images, however, I have finished with the bird photos-one of which is in the second follow up, and all of which can be seen at the link to my flickr sets(best viewed as a slideshow set to fast--there are over 600 images..)-Highlights of our trip included my sister in law spotting a record bird on her very first time observing birds through binoculars,(and I had to chase the bird down ,running ,at 10,500 feet altitude to photograph it), a black and chestnut eagle perching on virtual command(photos not yet on flickr since they are pending possible publication ), Machu Picchu(what can I say?), and the quote of the trip--my sister in law after 3 hours' birding, with one record bird under her belt, when asked what she thought of birding after her initial experience, observed: "It's just like fishing, except I like it".
Hopefully we will see some of you tomorrow at Cape Florida, or Sunday at Barnes.
