This morning while hoping to refind a mystery bird that EagleEye spotted yesterday, we found a King Rail dancing on the side of the main road in ENP.It was a lifer for both of us and somewhat made up for our lack of success in finding our target bird.
Also seen in ENP this morning were many Eastern Kingbirds,White crowned Pigeons and a heap of hungry 'Skeeters.
A short stop back at the house provided us with our FOTS hummingbird at a window feeder.
Later in the day we found ourselves back near the now closed ENP(closed at 430pm for Ike)and made a quick run thru the Annex.
I was very concerned to find that there is a nearly completed ELECTRIC GATE across the road just before you would pass the fish farm and continue down to the Annex. Does anyone know what is happening? Are we going to lose access to a great birding spot?
At any rate, it was very quiet there and we decided , on a lark (!) to drive thru the now completely tilled Lark fields. It was empty of life until we got to "the spot" and there was the Horned Lark!!! He seems to be getting more color and horns are now much easier to see. He also spent most of the time singing softly to himself . It was great to find him still there!
