Intersection of Sawgrass and University Drive in Parkland; the 24 acres of Mary Help of Christians Church, school, and Garden. The plat is Hoechoka Hammock and within the 24 acres there is a natural plant area with 192 species of native plants, vines, orchids, and bromeliads. Nothing formal just a lovely land stewardship parish surrounded on three sides by flood control canal and featuring some unique vegetation, wildlife, and habitat conservation. The parish recently was awarded the Emerald Award by Broward county for its efforts in conservation and environmental concerns.

The grounds features paths, meditation areas, wilderness areas, open green space, much cypress and hundreds of cabbage palms which are "farmed" for their "boots", fronds, and branches to manufacture orchids potting medium and trail mulch. It is free, just be sensitive to liturgical days such as Sunday and avoid the grade school since all the 'noise" will eliminate any good birding. After entering the grounds from University turn left at the mailbox, park on the grass parking island, and walk into the picnic area by the firepit. Enjoy and let us know what you see.

Today was very wet and no birds appeared but frogs came out in a mannner that we have not seen in 12 years. There was a 3-5 inch storm burst at 5:00 AM and it really soaked us. The frogs croaked up a storm.
