The South FL swamp snake is a good find. When I used to cruise the L-5 levee on a regular basis in the past, i'd normally encounter many Fl water snakes, garter, and ribbon snakes, but not crayfish snakes. Unfortunately, all of the tree islands and dry spots in this part of the Everglades all the way down to Tamiami Trail are under water. These snakes, as well as the deer, rabbits, bobcats, and all other wildlife are migrating to the levees to escape the rising floodwaters. And I might point out that this rapid increase in water levels is not due to Mother Nature, but rather to water management activities. The amount of wildlife, including snakes, taken by these actions will take a huge toll, and have a much greater and longer lasting effect than the herp collectors.
