With the help of Paul, Brian, and John some of Florida's best birders and the TAS group we (Toe, Rock, Bill and myself) were able to view 20 Shorebird species on this Sod Farm Trip. It was a great trip and we talked about just how great it was all the way home. We found almost all of our target birds and enjoyed great looks at an American Golden Plover.
Like always, it is difficult to take photos of the bird on the Sod Farm trip due to the great distance to the birds, but I have a few that I wanted to share.
Here is a list of some of the species we saw:
Shorebirds:
Black-bellied Plover
American Golden Plover
Semipalmated Plover
Killdeer
Black-necked Stilt
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Willet
Spotted Sandpiper
Upland Sandpiper
Marbled Godwit
Ruddy Turnstone
Pectoral Sandpiper
Western Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Stilt Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitcher
Short-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Phalarope
Other interesting birds:
Black-bellied Whistling Duck
Fulvous Whistling Duck
Blue-winged Teal
Gull-billed Tern
Caspian Tern
Black Tern
Least Tern
Black Skimmer
Lousiana Waterthrush
Prairie Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Common Yellow-throat
Misses today were Avocet and Solitary Sandpiper, but we are not complaining. We needed a good shorebird fix and I think we got one. Shorebirding rocks!
