This afternoon we raced down to the S. Dade AG fields to look for the A. Golden Plover. When we arrived we started to look for the Plover in the area that was described by Larry and Toe. We found several groups of Black-bellied Plover but no A. Golden Plover. In the distance we saw Steve looking for the bird as well. After about 40 minutes of in and out of the field we went down almost to the end of the dirt road and started to look at all the Barn Swallow. While setting up the scope I noticed a bird flying in from the southwest (where Larry said the bird had flown to earlier) I put the binocs on the bird and alerted Mariel to look as well. American Golden Plover (yes!) The bird was in flight showing no black on the underwing, no white uppertail, and did not have a distinct wingstripe. It flew across from the west side of the field to the east side, landed and gave us brief looks and then took off again landing by the irrigation device. We did not try to relocate it on the way out. Next we went to the Annex where we bumped into Steve and company which had just seen some cool birds. We told them where to look for the Plover and they left, we stayed behind looking for Orchard Oriole which never showed. We did had awesome looks at a Trails Flycatcher while there, and it even called for us several times. Sounded like an Alder to us, it sounded like there was at least 3 around. Some other migrants were present as well.

Thanks to Larry and Toe for alerting us to such a fantastic bird. We hope the other birders that were there as we left saw it as well.

Nature is Awesome
