Participants in the TAS carpool trip this morning to Key Largo State Botanical Site saw or heard
many of the Keys breeding specialties. We stopped first on Card Sound Road, near Alabama Jacks
and the toll booth, where we saw the Cuban race of Yellow Warbler, Gray Kingbirds, and
White-crowned Pigeons, and heard Black-whiskered Vireo. After crossing the bridge, a Magnificent
Frigatebird was seen soaring overhead. At the northern end of the Botanical Site, several Black-
whiskered and White-eyed Vireos, numerous Northern Cardinals, a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos,
and up to three Northern Waterthrush were seen. At the southern end of the Botanical Site, a
Mangrove Cuckoo was briefly heard calling. A single American Redstart was seen. A Great-crested
Flycatcher was seen in the parking lot of the Flamingo Restaurant, where we ended our day.
