The viewing distance is changing all the time while you are out there but if you stay in your vehicle and use it as a blind some of the birds will let you get pretty close. We were able to get close to the Horned Lark by waiting for it to get close to the car by itself. It came within 30 feet of the car at times! The Buff-breasted Sandpiper did not come as close but the Pectoral are inquisitive at times and got near our car. With that said just give it a shot there is alot to check out while you are there.
