The Horned Lark was still present today, I could not find it early or later in the morning. It was not until after some very heavy rain in the late afternoon that the bird appeared and was seen by Gallus Quigley. I checked on the bird around 6:15 p.m. and found it right away in the same area it was originally found. It then flew a short distance and landed, and then flew again very high while calling. I could not find it again until I drove a little farther west on 384 st., I found it on the south side of the road happily feeding.

There have been up to 16-species of shorebirds present in the last week as well as many swallows. Today there were at least 5 Upland Sandpipers and 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper. The next farm field to the west on the north side of 9336, closest to the Everglades, has had dozens of Swallow-tailed Kites feeding over the fields that are being plowed.

There was very, very heavy rain in the Horned Lark area, there are many, many puddles this evening. Tomorrow would be a really good day to check for new shorebird species with all of the water. A lot of it will probably drain tonight but there should still be some tomorrow.
