Yesterday afternoon, after I observed the Horned Lark in the same area off of SW 384 St. and 217 Ave., I proceeded west to the next dirt road and turned left, heading south. In the field about 200 yds to the west was a majestic male Bald Eagle just standing in the open field. After about 5 minutes, he flew in a westerly direction. I then prceeded to Lucky Hammock and rounded the hammock, with mosquitoes in tow. On the NW side of the hammock I spooked another male Bald Eagle that headed west and immediately picked up a thermal with some vultures and started thermaling. It acted like it wanted to go back to it's roost, since it never traveled very far from the hammock. I would like to think it was another eagle, and not the same one as I saw earlier. No other birds were observed in the hammock.
Next, me and my mosquitos went on the east side of Lucky Hammock and we observed 3 Sandhill Cranes on the far side of the large field at the end of the short path.
Leaving the bugs behind, I went to the field SW of the intersection of SW 217 Ave. and SR 9336 and observed 5 Upland Sandpipers working in the sparsely weedy fields, poking in the dirt for food. They were located about 100m SE of a large, white water tank in the open field.
Other birds that were seen in the area were many Killdeer, Barn Swallows, and a lesser amound of Least Sandpipers.
