There is a canal between Boca Rio Road and the Turnpike that I drive by going to and from work. It is a very reliable site for wood storks. My list for there is anhinga, comoront, little blue heron, great blue heron, tricolor heron, limpkin, great white egret, mottled duck (I think, I am not the best at identifying ducks yet), wood storks, a sandhill crane, and I am pretty sure I have seen a black crowned night heron. These are in addition to the grackles, doves, pigeons, muscovy ducks etc.
I saw my personal best of 5 wood storks last week, and the week before saw some juve limpkins chasing another one carrying a snail shell.
Should I expect to see the wood storks year round? I had a month or so where they were missing last spring.
Thanks,
Danielle
ps) Am I the only one that thinks that a group of wood storks sometimes looks like "ghost vultures" ;-)
