Beginning today, there will be a $3 entrance fee to the park (walk-in is $1). The historical carousel and mini-train are now operating at $1 for ride (3 rides on carousel). Although the sign doesn't indicate this, the Director told me that for the time being, the charge will be weekends only.

The salt water channel is now open and brackish water is evident in the areas north and south of the boardwalk. Roseate Spoonbills and Reddish Egrets have joined the usual waders. Gray Kingbirds nested successfully and there are 8-10 birds in the mangroves north of the boardwalk. There are a few Least Sandpipers but right now, there are no exposed flats. Besides the sandpipers, the only migrants and/or wintering birds are Belted Kingfisher, Barn Swallows and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers.
