Joe Barros and I (and another young lady whose name I don't know) were there among about 30 people. The plans proposed were to "improve" things. Some were real, like removing some pavement. Other things were bird neutral, such as a landing dock on the canal for canoes, parking on 70 Ave (outside the park), and corridors to nearby parks. Then there was "improving" the Nature Center, which implied upgrading the structure and making it more kid-friendly to encourage programs. They want more room for frisbees (you heard it here first), and plan to remove "undesirable" Casuarinas to that end. Any ideas where Casuarinas exist in AD Barnes except along Bird Rd? They agreed to open the gate at the Rooster Area as early as today because some woman was scared to go into the woods alone with only a single egress. What if she ran into a bird-watchin' prevert. I suppose that only one way in and out is a valid concern, though.
There were no cat people there, and the only cat discussion occurred after the meeting, when Joe was his most politic at pressing our views. (I wish I could do that!) Seems like the cat folks have wangled an agreement to have two "feeding stations". The park rangers have ear tagged 56 cats, and they say any others will be removed, including kittens. The 56 tagged animals are grandfathered in until they all die off. An informal naked eye inspection of a dozen or so cats infesting the parking area after the meeting revealed only one ear notch. So what else is new.
