And the northern visitors and fly-bys have gone home. Time to settle down to the mundane, humdrum and hard work of ferreting (interesting word)out of exotics, Metro-zoo escapees, cage releases, mixed up or late migrants, and the like. But always, there are the "residents" who welcome us back from our dizzy chase for numbers and life lists. This solitary green-back heron, unlike mad dogs, Englishmen, and crazy photographers, has the sense to seek the shade at noon at Wakodahatchee. How bemused it must be to see the end of the power walkers and joggers on the trails at Wakodahatchee and the only the diligent veterens braving the heat, humidity, and glaring sun. For us locals and the birds of Wakodahatchee, the party is over and now comes the long hot summer. Pity.
