Chris and Lili and I found a few shorebirds at the wetlands, unfortunately not including the godwit. A couple Greater Yellowlegs were joined by a small flock of Short-billed Dowitchers, and a flyover flock of peeps that landed in a hidden area. A Roseate Spoonbill rose briefly from that area to give us a look, then disappeared again.
Other highlights were a female King Rail, heard and then briefly seen; three White Pelicans; one flyover Glossy Ibis; and a juvenile Purple Martin perched on a wire. A White Ibis that had (apparently) caught a fish was pursued by a juvenile Wood Stork. The ibis dropped the fish, which was eventually eaten by a Snowy Egret.
At Barnes, at the pinelands/hardwood hammock border, we enjoyed one mixed-species foraging warbler flock that included several Yellow-throated Warblers, one immature/female American Redstart, and one female Black-and-White Warbler. We could not relocate the Worm-eating Warbler that Chris found yesterday. Other highlights were Brown Thrasher (scurrying along a high branch as if it was on the ground), Chimney Swift, and Cooper's Hawk.
Things are picking up!
Good birding,
Susan
