Janette & I went to Chekikia Hammock this morning at 8:00 am and thru the course of 2 hours observed 4 White-tailed Kites. The first one was a juvenile, located just after the entrance sign on the north side of the road, about 500m away. We used a spotting scope to observe the birds after we sighted them with our binos.

The second bird was spotted just east of SW 232 ave. and 216 st. The bird was spotted on a dead snag above a tree island on the N side of 216 st. about 700-800m away. It appeared to be an adult. We observed the Kite take flight and gain altitude and hover several times before moving further north and west.

We traveled east on 216 st. until the pavement ended and observed 2 adults in the tall trees to the Southeast of the road. They appeared to be adults also, however they were about 600-800m away. after a while, they flew into the foliage of the trees and were hard to observe, even with the spotting scope.
