Sitting in my office this morning and talking on the phone, out of the corner of my eye a blur of a brownish bird landed on my window ledge (6th floor). Since House Sparrows are nesting and frequent ledge visitors, I didn't really pay much attention. After a few minutes, as I slowly took in the bird, it suddenly dawned on me that that the bird sure looked BIG for a House Sparrow....

and in the nanoseconds that followed, the following thoughts: and a wing bar? and streaking? and that bill doesn't look right...and a white supercilium???

Season's first Rose-breasted Grosbeak (female)is now on my Office List!
