Hi all! Last night when I got home (Parkland, up in North Broward) I had 10 or so swallows in my tree. They left before I could get my camera out there, but then I noticed a few dozen of them flying around. They would temporarily land in a tall pine tree, but otherwise were flying around. I am guessing they were a type of swallow because when they flew, there was a definate V in the tail and their flight looked like the purple martins Tricia pointed out to me on the night we were stood up in Davie. The bodies were light underneath, dark on top (not sure the exact color) with a light necklace across the top back of the neck. On one of the pictures, I think the lower face/neck is brown. They were there dive bombing insects (I would think, otherwise being very playful :-) for about 20 minutes after I got home and then flew off to the South.
Two questions, first, was this likely a group of migrating Cave swallows? What can I look for in my blurry pics to confirm. Was this likely a one time event, or should I expect to see them for a few days? Based on my description, is there anything else I should be looking at it having been?
Thanks!
Danielle
