The book I have been referring to is:

We have a few copies at TAS that you can purchase if you would like one.
It is well worthhaving a copy.
On page 148 they say: "Probably escaped from a Miami tourist facility in 1948"
The reference to Dr. Oscar T. Owre's 1973 paper is:
A consideration of the exotic avifauna of southeastern Florida.
Wilson Bull. 85: 491-500.
I will try to find my copy.

P.S. I believe that the Spot-breasted Oriole is the only exotic bird protected by a
state(?) law. That was certainly the situation 30 years ago.
