Last Sunday Susan Schneider and I heard an odd mimid singing at Otter Cave (Shark Valley). Like a Catbird, it didn't repeat phrases, but the voice sounded more like a Thrasher.
Although we think it was probably a thrasher, we never did see it and can't completely rule out catbird.
Other nice birds that day included a kettle of 8-9 Swallow-tailed Kites near Pinecrest (Loop Rd), Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and a singing Black-whiskered Vireo near the nature center on Loop Road.
I thought at first the kites were migrating, but it turns out it is too early even for them.
Elsewhere, Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks have been showing up occasionally near my house in W. Kendall. Makes a nice yard bird!
