It s been almost a two weeks since I last checked the Purple Martin roost but I received a report from last Tuesday that it was still going strong and there was a large movement of martins towards the roost yesterday evening just before the storms moved in. For the last couple of years the numbers increased into early July then tapered off towards the middle of the month. When I was last there the main activity began a little before 8:00 PM and continued until after 8:30. The roost is located in front of the Race Trac gas station on the west side of Davie Road (SW 64th Ave.) about a quarter mile south of I-595.
