I conducted the Lower Keys Breeding Bird Survey this morning, starting at the end of the road on Lower Sugarloaf and ending on Long Beach Rd on Big Pine Key. It was a bit breezy, but that kept the bugs at bay quite nicely. Highlights were 2 Black Vultures on Big Pine Key, 63 White-crowned Pigeons, 34 Black-whiskered Vireos, and 2 Shiny Cowbirds. You may notice that I had zero Mangrove Cuckoos. Here's the total list:
