Here are some hot Martins! They have their mouths open possibly to either cool down or because they are thirsty. I have a bird-bath, but it's in a tree & I think they would like it more open. If they want water there's a slough about 1000 m away. Rainy season should be here soon, so they will be able to cool down then.

The bird house has been around for about 20 years and it's a little rough from the wear. It's fallen once or twice (W/O birds, of course!) and I've modified it to make the rooms larger, in order to make it harder for owls to reach in & snatch the young. I also hung gourds from the bottom & changed the enterance holes to keep out starlings. But hey, they keep coming back about the same time every year (Jan. 31) to raise their young and are very pleasant and interesting birds to have.
