I saw a female( what else would it be ) sapsucker in the strangler fig above the chickee at the Doc Thomas House and Botanical Garden yesterday(5/4/2003) just before the TAS Annual Meeting started. I found out later that Joe Barros and Cynthia Guerra saw one (the same one?) earlier last week in kapok tree on the front
of the property. Has anyone seen a male ybss here in
recent years?
I was a bit confused by Alex's post that he had seen
a hermit thrush there that people told him was an ovenbird. Size alone would differentiate between these
two species and there are other distinguishing features. Both have been seen there in the past, and
ovenbirds frequently overwinter. Explanation?
A male American Redstart put on quite a show for
several of us. There was a male Black-throated Blue
around also.
