This morning Christi Carmichael & I went to Mt. Schinus (along the Old Ingraham Highway in Everglades NP). The wetland area surrounding the mountain is nearly dried up, so birds are concentrating into what little water is left. A large flock of White Pelicans, Wood Storks, Great Egrets, and associated waders and shorebirds (along with two Bald Eagles) was gathered in/alongside one of the pools. Highlights were numerous Least Bitterns and one King Rail, which emerged from the cattails for long enough to inspect the drought-stricken scene...and to give us a good look.
