Yesterday Wellington opened Peaceful Waters Park--a wetland park using/treating reclaimed water, similar to Wakodahatchee and Green Cay. It has a 7/10th of a mile boardwalk, but you can leave the boardwalk and walk on berms between the constructed cells. I wonder if the wildlife at Peaceful Waters will become as acclimated as those at Green Cay and Wako.
Today there were at least 40 BLACK NECK STILTS, who were obviously nesting because they were not very happy to see me. Also several pairs of MOTTLED DUCKS and at least 20 ducklings. TRI-COLORED HERON, GREEN H., SNOWY, LITTLE BLUE, GREAT EGRET, W. IBIS, P.B. GREBE, B.T. GRACKLE, RW BLACKBIRD, LEAST TERN, CHIMNEY SWIFT, PURPLE MARTIN, KILLDEER, ANHINGA, L. SHRIKE, CATTLE EGRET, C. MOORHEN, B. THRASHER, STARLING, MONK PARAKEET,
No real surprises, except the large number of stilts. But I am so glad to have this wonderful new park so close to home. Peaceful Waters Park is located behind the Wellington Water Treatment Facility and the Community Park on Pierson Road. Park your car near Fields 13-16 parking lot and follow the asphalt path behind the snack bar. Yes, this new birding location has bathrooms and a snack bar (when the fields are in use, at least)!
