It's been nearly a month since we returned from our Panama jaunt, and I haven't had my camera pointed at an avian subject since. I did add some flycatcher, antshrike and antbird images to my Panama photos that I had overlooked, but this didn't satisfy my need to see something with feathers through the viewfinder. So I crossed the street to my neighborhood canal this evening, where I found this fellow, albeit some distance away across the water.I believe it is the first time in the two years that I've lived here, near the intersection of Bird and Red Roads, that I have seen this species in this part of the canal.
I will be in Sanibel this week, but I suspect that the best birding times will be spent fishing...perhaps in 3 weeks when I will be at my nephew's wedding in western Massachusetts, I can catch up with some of the birds that eluded me during "migration" here this spring.
