Hey Vince,
I'm the developer of that website. I thought some in here might know of it as birders are also sometimes stargazers.
Well, if you are a birder then you really must go to Australia. I saw most of the great birds, although unfortunately I did not see a Cassowary when I was in the area.
I travelled all around the country. In the southern regions I mainly saw galahs, sulfur-crested cockatoos, corellas, rosellas, lorikeets, wrens, magpies, and magpie larks.
In the north, the white cockatoos become less frequent, although you still see them. I walk around a lot and am more observant than most, so I learned where to spot which birds.
I saw red-tailed black cockatoos literally right towntown in Darwin. Also saw white-breasted sea eagles there. Masked plovers are also very common.
I spent my last 6 months in cairns, Queensland, which has an esplanade along a mud flat. This is a great place for observing shore birds. I saw black-necked storks, and the pelicans can be seen up close any day.
In additiojn to the birds, there is obviously copious wildlife to enjoy in such a young country. In many cities, huge colonies of flying foxes live in trees right downtown. Watching these groups of bats take off in the evening is a sight to behold.
Best,
-joshua
